Abstract:
Speech is the most direct bridge of interpersonal communication. The defects of auditory function will make the received speech message blurred or blocked. Snesorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is the most common (about 90%) defects of auditory function in clinical, and the hearing aids and cochlear implants are now the basic platforms to provide certain compensation of hearing loss. However, market survey shows there are still some problems needed to been improved when in noisy conditions for the current hearing devices. In this presentation, I will describes two novel scheme to improve the speech intelligibility performance when speech in noisy conditions. One is adaptive wide-dynamic range compression (AWDRC) for digital hearing aids, the other is adaptive envelope compression (AEC) for cochlear implants. From the results indicated that these novel schemes will contribute to the SNHL individuals to obtain better speech intelligibility performance when in noisy communication conditions.
