History

Mobirise

National Taipei University was formerly known as the College of Law and Business of National Chung-Hsing University. In spite of the well-established foundations in law, business and humanities, the University is extending to a new campus in Sanhsia. The original Taipei Campus is located at the junction between Minsheng E. Rd (8th Blvd) and Jianguo N. Rd (10th Ave), which is a major financial district in Taipei City. The new Sanhsia Campus is located close to Nankang Software Park, Academia Sinica and Hsinchu Science Park, and also near to Sanhsia communication channels, and is thus at the heart of the high-tech zone in Taiwan. Sanhsia Campus is large as well with convenient transportation. It is located at the foot of Yuan Hill beside Dahan Steam, with beautiful scenery. The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering was founded in 2004, and began offering undergraduate degree programs, aiming of balancing science and humanities. And the Master Degree was then established in 2008.

Characteristics and Goals

Our department is the first technological department established in a university previously concentrated on law and business programs. It provides many professional training courses. The Colleges of Law, Business and Humanities provide the extracultivation opportunities which could not be commonly found in other science schools.

Professional training focuses on the integration of IT theory and practice of IT. Students will receive rigorous computer science training, useusing state-of-the-art equipment, through various academic activities and industries cooperation exchanges, thus giveing them the opportunity to understand both theory and practice in computer science.Students are expected to possess high aptitude in both humanities and technology.

Academic Activities

Various presentation on theory and practice are given from time to time to help students to understand the existing and future industrial and academic directions.

Teaching and Research Facilities

Facilities of the department include laboratorieson Electronic Circuit, Digital Microprocessor, Networking, Multimedia and Image Processing, Mobile Computing, Network Communication, Distributed System, and IC Design. All laboratories are equipped with brand-new and advanced facilities.

Future Opportunities

Electronics, IT, and telecommunication are the most fast developing high-tech industries currently. Students who are graduated from these fields would be well positioned to pursue their careers in the semiconductor, IC design, IT and telecommunication sectors. A solid educational background in these areas will enhance a student's employment opportunities. Moreover, the university is strategically located between Hsinchu Science Park and Taipei Industrial Park (including the Jhongli, Tucheng, andSindian industry areas), and it would giving our graduated students easy access to become the elites of these industries.

Future Plan and Development

At present, National Taipei University has total three departments in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering, namely Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (our department), Department of Communications Engineering, as well as Department of Electrical Engineering. Furthermore, the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) was also established in 2007. The EECS college will eventually have two undergraduate programs departments (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) and multiple graduate programs. The Master degree program of Computer Science and Information Engineering will be set up first. Medium-term and long-term plans are to set up research institutes in subjects such as Multimedia, IC Design, Digital Content, Virtual Reality and Cybernetics Engineering. The major educational objective of our department is focus on the undergraduate degree program. All our faculties are employed in conjunction with these independent institutes with the aim to instruct those graduate students. In spite of these institutes, the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering will also establish the Financial Engineering research center in cooperation with the College of Business, together with the Intellectual Property research center in cooperation with the Law School.
