Frequency division duplex (FDD) is adopted in the current macrocellular systems for providing symmetric uplink-and-downlink traffics. However, wireless data services usually exhibit an asymmetric behavior, with less data traffic generated in the uplink than in the downlink, and the uplink spectrum of the macrocellular system is often underutilized. To improve the spectrum efficiency of the uplink spectrum, a time division duplex (TDD) microcellular system is deployed to fully utilize the uplink spectrum of the neighboring macrocellular system and provide more flexible usage of the spectrum resource. The intercell interference management between the macrocell and the microcell is a critical challenge to the successful deployment of such hierarchical cells. In this talk, we will discuss the potential interference mitigation techniques for the coexisting FDD/TDD cellular systems. |
