Abstract:
Recent advances in digital electronics, microprocessors, and wireless communication have made sensors smaller, low powered, and cheaper to manufacture. Due to these attractive characteristics, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) were widely applied to many applications, including environmental monitoring, tracking, precision agriculture, military surveillance, smart homes, and so on. This talk presents a WSN application system, called "WSN Sound Tree Sidewalk", which integrates art design and several new technologies including sensors, wireless communication, cyber-physical systems and embedded systems to create an interactive artwork. Each "mushroom" houses several sensors including temperature, humidity, motion and proximity sensors to collect environmental information and detect people. An interactive algorithm allows each "mushroom" to play multi-track music in response to environmental conditions and the number of people near the "mushroom". The "WSN Sound Tree Sidewalk" system can be installed in a variety of public areas such as school campuses, museums, public gardens, and exhibition halls.
