Abstract:
Cognitive Radio (CR) represents an exciting new communication paradigm with advanced spectrum management enabling improved channel utilization and overall available bandwidth. The bandwidth demanding multimedia applications are excellent candidates to fully exploit the potential of CR. However, research efforts has been focused mainly on spectrum access; the application specific performance issues have been relatively less touched. A novel aspect of view considering spectrum access and application level performance as a whole is addressed in this talk. Starting with current trend of CR networks, we then introduce an opportunistic approach for efficient video multicasting. We are able to realize the advantage of user diversity in challenging CR environments under application specific optimization problems. We conclude the talk with a discussion of open issues and future directions in this research area.
Bio:
Chih-Wei Huang (黃志煒) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Engineering heading the Information Processing and Communications (IPC) Laboratory at National Central University,Taiwan, since 2010. He received his Ph.D. from University of Washington in 2009 on cross-layer resource management for multimedia over wireless networks. From 2006 to 2009, Dr. Huang was intern researcher at Siemens Corporate Research and Microsoft Research. His current research interests include wireless networking, multimedia communications, and digital signal processing. He received an M.S. degree from Columbia University, and a B.S. from National Taiwan University all in Electrical Engineering.
