Abstract
Taiwan locates in the northwest Pacific and has high coastline/land area ratio. People live in Taiwan; have to know how to live with the sea. A variety of marine ecosystems are found in the neighboring waters of Taiwan including intertidal zones, coral reefs, open ocean, deep-sea, estuaries, mangroves, lagoons, sea grass beds, etc. They provide enormous services to human beings, such as food, commerce, recreation, and medicine. Unfortunately, human activities have caused severe impacts to the sea and it is urgent to take action before it is too late. Let us start with knowing the sea surrounding us more.
