Abstract:
Device to device (D2D) communication stems form the demand on reducing device transmission power, reducing communication delay, offloading network traffic, enhancing spectral efficiency, extending cell coverage, etc. In this talk we are going to have an overview of state of the art device to device technologies and applications. The architecture of D2D communication could be “stand-along and self-organizing”, “network assisted or network controlled”, or “network integrated and heterogeneous network”. The technologies of D2D communication can be either unlicensed (e.g. NFC, BLE, Wi-Fi Direct) or licensed (LTE Direct, WiMax Direct). D2D communication has wide spectrum of applications in local voice / data service, gateway to sensor network, public safety, social proximity, location-based service, network traffic offloading, vehicular network, etc. We will also talk about some technical issues like device discovery and pairing, radio resource management, etc. in promoting D2D communications. This talk will end up at the discussion of solutions for radio frequency reuse in LTE Direct.
